When Elizabeth first discovered a lump in her breast, she did what any diligent person would do and sought advice from her doctor. However, despite her efforts to be proactive, Elizabeth would not be diagnosed until over a year later, when the cancer had gotten significantly worse. Dissatisfied with her conventional doctors’ continued “wait-and-see” approach, Elizabeth decided it was time to take her treatment journey into her own hands and made her way to Hope4Cancer Treatment Centers.
From Anxiety & Uncertainty…
Just after her 30th birthday while breastfeeding her 3rd son, Elizabeth noticed the first signs of a lump in her breast. Aware of the increasing cancer onset rate for young adults, she scheduled an ultrasound – but due to the cloudy milk in her breasts, her doctors could not find anything to worry about and sent Elizabeth home. Though she and her supportive husband, Duncan, initially tried to rationalize the discovery as “pregnancy stuff”, deep down they feared the worst and continued to keep an eye on it. Over a year later and after the birth of her 4th son, Elizabeth could no longer ignore that the lump had grown in both size and tenderness and sought a second opinion. Unfortunately, a second ultrasound confirmed her fears, revealing a breast cancer diagnosis and a 15cm tumor.
“The doctors basically presented a few treatments to us and said we’d just try one until it stopped working, and then we’d try something else. It felt like a game of Whack-A-Mole,” Duncan and Elizabeth recall. “But we didn’t want to just sit around and wait. We wanted something more concrete.”
…To Assurance & Empowerment
Dissatisfied with the reactive approach their conventional doctors proposed, Elizabeth and Duncan began diving into research and exploring alternative cancer treatment options. After receiving recommendations for Hope4Cancer from several members of their community, the pair made their way to Mexico and immediately noticed a difference in the support they felt from an integrative treatment approach.
“I was nervous at first, but the doctors and nurses have been great at answering all my questions and making me feel loved,” Elizabeth shares. “They are really looking at the whole person here; incorporating nutrition, emotional health, and mindset all along with the physical. It’s awesome to feel you can truly recover and be cared for.”
