In 2017, Grant Pollard experienced what he (and his doctors) believed to be a severe flare-up of his pre-diagnosed Crohn’s Disease. Accustomed to managing the disease, his new symptoms kept Grant in almost constant pain — vomiting sometimes 20-25 times per day. Searching for help, he and his loving wife, Krista, sought out their physician.
An Unexpected Turn of Events
A body scan revealed a serious abscess outside Grant’s abdominal region, prompting his doctor to recommend a regimen of powerful antibiotics. After two weeks in the hospital with no improvement and multiple CT scans demonstrating no signs of the abscess shrinking, the Pollard’s elected to move forward with surgery.
“The surgeon said it looked like a bomb had gone off in my abdominal cavity… my appendix had essentially exploded.”
Unfortunately, even surgery could not improve Grant’s situation. Within a few days, the couple was called in for an urgent appointment, only to find that the abscess in Grant’s stomach was in fact an indication of an aggressive case of colon cancer.
Overwhelmed with Options
Once Grant’s incision healed, he immediately began an intense round of chemotherapy… but like most of the other treatments he’d undergone, its solution was only temporary. When his cancer returned even more aggressively, Grant and Krista received word from a friend about Hope4Cancer. Upon researching and watching our patient welcome video, the couple knew in their hearts that they needed to come to Mexico.
“We saw the video of Marcy and Tony welcoming us as we considered Hope4Cancer, and it was so warm and sincere. We just knew… whatever we have to do, we’re going there,” the couple recalls.
