Why detoxify?

The human body accumulates toxins from a wide variety of sources. While some toxins can be avoided, it is nearly impossible to avoid all of them in our modern world.

Industrial chemicals are present in our air, our water and food. Toxins also accumulate in our bodies from the incomplete breakdown of unhealthy foods and excessive food consumption. This includes processed carbohydrates, red meats and artificial ingredients. Furthermore, our body accumulates toxins from foods that are incompatible with a healthy body; think alcohol, caffeine, sugary desserts and salty snacks.

So, why detoxify? Let’s explore the impact toxins have on our bodies over time, as well as some of the symptoms of toxicity.

The impact of toxins

Some toxins have a direct influence on our health. Chemicals can alter normal cells into malignant cells. These toxins include carcinogenic chemicals like radioactive materials and heavy metals, as well as asbestos, tobacco smoke and preservatives.

Toxins can also indirectly impact our bodies by impacting the condition of the body. Toxic buildup leads to increased pathogen growth and pressure on the body’s systems. Toxins can cause functional changes that affect our overall health and well-being, which can contribute to chronic diseases like cancer.

Built-in detoxification

Most of us have heard the saying “we are what we eat,” and that adage applies to detoxification. We are also what we absorb and are unable to eliminate.

Our body’s built-in detoxification pathways are powered by important organs: the intestines, skin, lungs, liver and kidneys. These organs, when healthy, eliminate toxins. But when our body is overloaded and overwhelmed with toxins, the functioning of these organs can deteriorate and become unable to handle the toxin build-up.

So why detoxify?

When our body’s natural detoxification pathways aren’t working correctly, we need to implement a detoxification plan. A good detoxification program should include the following:

  • Methods of directly removing toxins — getting rid of the harmful elements in our body
  • Methods of supporting or cleansing the organs involved in detoxification — so the body can more effectively detoxify on its own
  • Replacing toxin input where possible — therefore reducing the everyday toxin burden on the body

There are a variety of detoxification programs available, and these important methods can offer a solid “jump-start.” But true detoxification cannot be a one-time event: it must become a way of life for the effects to be long-lasting.

Is my body toxic?

So we’ve now explored why detoxification is critical. Could your body be toxic? You might benefit from detoxification if you face some of the following symptoms:

  • Constant fatigue
  • Regular muscle aches and pains
  • Weight you just can’t shed
  • Bad breath
  • Constipation, bloating or IBS
  • Broken-out skin, rashes, acne, puffy eyes, eczema or psoriasis
  • Sensitivity to smells
  • Arthritis or gout
  • Mental fatigue
  • Depression

When toxins build up in our bodies, they can contribute to cancer — this is why detoxification is such a key element at Hope4Cancer.
