Dr. Anuar Mena-Balán, M.D.

Radiologist & Mindfulness Instructor

Cancún Center

Dr. Anuar joined the Hope4Cancer Cancún family in late 2023, bringing with him a perspective that is rare in the field of imaging: he believes that seeing a patient’s medical scan is just the first step in seeing the whole person.

His journey in medicine began with a focus on deep human connection. After earning his Medical Degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) in México, he worked with the Yucatán State Directorate of Mental Health, providing direct care and support to women survivors of violence. This early experience taught him that empathy is as vital a tool as any medical instrument.

Dr. Anuar completed his Radiology Residency at UADY in 2013 and has since spent over a decade refining his eye for detail. He served as an Attending Radiologist specializing in MRI at Star Medica Hospital in Mérida, México and has been a key member of the radiology team at Hospital Galenia in Cancún since 2014. In his pursuit of world-class training, he traveled to Montreal to complete a Fellowship in Breast Imaging at the prestigious McGill University in 2020.

At Hope4Cancer, Dr. Anuar combines this high-level technical expertise with a grounded, holistic approach. Understanding that true health involves the mind as much as the body, he became a Certified Mindfulness Instructor in 2025 through the Círculo de Estudios para la Paz in Valencia, Spain.

Ultimately, Dr. Anuar is characterized by his genuine warmth and approachability. His practice is rooted in a philosophy of deep compassion and the conscious choice to live in the present moment. Whether analyzing a scan or speaking with a patient, he strives to bring a sense of calm to the room, ensuring that every person he treats feels truly seen, heard, and cared for in the here and now.
