Baking Soda and Cancer: A Possible Cancer Cure?

Can Baking Soda Cure Cancer?

Important update (read first):

Our recent reviews have brought up disturbing information about the use of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) for the treatment of cancer.  To bring up some history, the use of baking soda for cancer was popularized by Tullio Simoncini who claimed that cancer is caused by a fungus and is essentially an infection – a thought process that we believe is over-simplified. However, this concept rapidly gained acceptance worldwide in the realm of natural medicine options. There is a definite connection between microbes and cancer – both appear to thrive in the same environment and may help each other grow. However, to say that one is the other and vice-versa is a simplification that has defied scientific proof. Simoncini was convicted by the Italian courts and his medical license withdrawn after a sodium bicarbonate treatment was directly linked to the death of a breast cancer patient.

It will take extensive research to uncover the real truth, but from what we understand, we now know that the use of sodium bicarbonate can result in a mineral imbalance in the body that can disrupt the body’s biochemistry. There is even a theory that it may promote the growth of cancer. So, until more definitive information is obtained, we would urge patients to refrain from the temptation of using sodium bicarbonate. This is especially important for everybody to know, since sodium bicarbonate is such a ubiquitous and cheap product, available in almost every kitchen shelf in the world.

Natural and alternative therapies work, but it is crucially important that you get your cancer treated under the advice of a competent and well-informed doctor who is in tune with current information about the risks associated with different types of treatments.  For more information visit our home page at

Sodium Bicarbonate, otherwise known as baking soda, is enjoying the spotlight as researchers begin to study baking soda and cancer. Known for many years as the cure for all things fungal, baking soda is now taking center stage in many studies around the world.  That focus is bringing to the fore the concept that cancer and fungal infections go hand in hand (see note above).

Mayo Clinic:  Similarity in Behavior of Cancer and Fungal Infections?

Most notably is a report by the Mayo Clinic indicating that late stage fungal infections triggered by cancer, or accompanying cancer, may react favorably to baking soda therapies. Mayo Clinic is one of the leading researchers in cancer research, and are not the only to turn their focus on sodium bicarbonate and its potential.

Early research by the Mayo Clinic studied fungal infections of the gastrointestinal tract and discovered that it mimics cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. The fungus, Basidiobolus ranarum, is typically found in the soil, decaying organic matter and the gastrointestinal tracts of fish, reptiles, amphibians, and bats, and responded significantly to an antifungal therapy that included sodium bicarbonate.

Just as few as ten years ago this same condition would have been misdiagnosed and the same patient treated to a round of chemotherapy or surgery. Now, baking soda and cancer may hold the key to curing one of mankind’s greatest problems (Note:  not true.  See note above).

Johns Hopkins:  Antifungal Drug Reduces Angiogenesis That Blocks Cancer

Baking soda cancer cures have gained the attention of notable researchers.  Johns Hopkins has dedicated many research hours and dollars toward its study. Using the drug itraconazole (used to treat toenail fungus) was found to block angiogenesis, which are the blood vessels used to feed cancerous tumors. Angiogenesis is a crucial and vital link to stopping cancer growth and the application of an antifungal (such as baking soda therapy) reduced blood vessel growth by 67%.

Says Dr. Jun O. Liu, Professor of Pharmacology, “We were surprised, to say the least, that itraconazole popped up as a potential blocker of angiogenesis. We couldn’t have predicted that an antifungal drug would have such a role.” Research is still ongoing, but the important discovery was the unmitigated and significant results when cancer was treated as a fungus. One of the reasons that John Hopkins University and Hosptial have been studying this relationship for many years is the increased numbers of severe fungal infections in patients with neoplastic diseases. While they are light years away from a confirmed baking soda cancer cure, the early results are encouraging.

Dr. Tullio Simoncini  is one of the pioneers when it comes to discussing cancer and the use of baking soda to prevent and cure it. His prevailing theory indicates that cancer acts like a yeast overgrowth gone haywire. He has had significant success with many of his baking soda cancer treatments.  (Please see important note at the beginning of the article).

Baking Soda and Cancer: Case Studies

Could baking soda really be that influential against cancer?  The fact is that the scientific community is only skimming the surface of what really underlies the cancer process.   Lets take a couple of examples of some far-fetched possibilities that turn out to be real, everyday inducers of cancer.   According to researchers at the University of California Irvine, a toxin that is released by a mold that appears on nuts and grains can cause liver cancer. This toxin is called aflatoxin and is more prevalent in our food supply than we would like to think.  Likewise, a French case-control study of 1,010 breast cancer cases and 1,950 controls with nonmalignant diseases found that increased consumption of certain types of cheeses could be linked to breast cancer.  Baking soda and cancer may seem an odd combination, but the early evidence shows encouraging results.

A clinical nurse specialist with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University reports, “Patients with brain tumors used to have a life expectancy of 3-12 months, but better treatment has allowed them to live a bit longer.” Says Brenda Sheldon, “The last two brain tumor ICU patients we treated died of infection, not of their disease. One patient had a rare fungus, and the other had candidemia. Years ago, you would not see most of these fungal infections in patients with brain tumors because they would not live long enough.”

Sometimes it would seem that the wisdom of the ancients should not be overlooked when searching for a cure to something as deadly and devastating as cancer. Baking soda has been used throughout the ages to help people get through the worst medical problems. For example, there is evidence to show that the ancient Egyptians used a form of baking soda to treat all sorts of ailments; from fungal infections to upset stomachs. So, baking soda cancer cures may not be too farfetched after all.  (Please see important note at the beginning of the article).

Baking Soda:  An Alternative Treatment Going Conventional

Most recently Dr. Marty Pagel, Ph.D. from the University of Arizona Cancer Center has received endorsement and funding to conduct trials that will test the effects of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) on breast cancer patients. Interestingly enough, the United States believes this to be a viable alternative cancer treatment with promise as this research will be funded by an enormous $2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.

The potential for baking soda to eradicate cancer, or to enhance survival rates seems promising. In all studies bicarbonate-based protocols increased survival while traditional therapies, alone, did not show any significant gains over past survival rates.  (Please see important note at the beginning of the article).

  1. Everyone knows that 96% of cancer patients die from radiation and chemotherapy in a few years. And, less than 1% of Simoncini’s patient died using sodium bicarbonate. Yet, the Italian authorities convicted him and revoked his medical license. Revoking his medical license and even convicting him for the death of 1 out of thousands he cured clearly clearly clearly shows who’s behind trying to block this unpatentable and very inexpensive cure, sodium bicarbonate. Figure it out, folks !

  2. My wife is a clear example of “killed by the treatment and not, the disease”, radiation and chemotherapy deteriorated her health 100 times fatser than of the cancer itself.

  3. It depends on the kind of cancer, the grade of cancer, the stage of cancer one has which dictates how things will turn out with chemo. I’m sorry for your wife’s situation but blanket statements are not factual ones.
Using the best treatments medicine has to offer is a choice. Aiding it with the best supplemental treatments is sensible. A person doesn’t have to choose to be in one camp or the other.
I know several people who did chemo and died and I know several who did chemo and are alive for 12 + years.
