Travel & Safety

Insights for Stress-Free Travel

It’s common for many patients to feel anxious or overwhelmed by upcoming travel. There are many preparations required by medical tourism and a long-distance treatment program.
In hopes of removing some of this stress, we’ve compiled the following list of reminders.
*If you’re concerned by any travel advisories, we assure you that neither of our treatment centers are in areas of concern or government restriction. We take the highest measures of care to ensure our patients’ and their companions’ safety. For more information on this topic, please read: Safely Traveling To Mexico

Travel Documents

Ensure passports are valid for the duration of your stay and packed in an accessible place. Keep a copy of important documents (i.e. passports, personal identification, flight itinerary, etc.) with someone you can contact in the event of loss/theft. While these events are uncommon for our patients to experience, preventative measures are important for any international traveler.
Tijuana Center Advisory: Patients arriving in Mexico via car or shuttling from the San Diego airport will need to buy a $25.00 Visitor’s Permit at the border.
If you are traveling from a country outside of the United States, please check with the Embassy or Consulate of Mexico in your country to ensure that you have all necessary travel documents.

Tickets and Itinerary

Most patients traveling by air to Tijuana arrive at San Diego International Airport (SAN). Patients traveling to Cancun arrive at Cancun International Airport (CUN). To confirm your treatment center stay, please forward confirmed flight itinerary to your Patient Counselor as soon as possible.
If you are not traveling by air, we request a small up-front deposit to confirm your reservation. We will apply this deposit toward the total cost of your treatment plan.
We accommodate all arrivals and departures Monday through Friday. Please plan to arrive before 5 PM and depart after 11:30 AM.

After receiving your deposit or flight confirmation, your Patient Counselor will secure your accommodations. Tijuana in-patients stay on-site in our treatment center. Reservations for Tijuana out-patients and all Cancun patients are as follows:
Tijuana out-patients: As an out-patient, your Patient Counselor will reserve a hotel room for you before your arrival. Your treatment plan includes the cost of lodging, daily transportation to/from the center, and transportation to/from the airport or your San Diego location. We serve meals, juices, and snacks at the center for you and your companion at no additional cost.
Cancun patients: The admissions office will confirm your hotel reservations based upon availability of the hotels. You’ll receive a separate email from us detailing your hotel information and booking confirmation. Your treatment plan includes the cost of lodging, meals, and daily transportation to/from the treatment center. Your companion can stay in your hotel room at no additional cost, but will be responsible for their own meals. Please note that transportation between the airport and your hotel is not included in treatment cost.
Returning patients: Click here for more information.

While both of our treatment centers enjoy tropical weather, mornings and evenings can be chilly. Prepare to dress in light layers, especially December through February. We recommend packing a week’s worth of comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Laundry service is available on-site.
Please keep in mind that your suitcase will need space to accommodate the components of your home program. This requires you to check your luggage (not carry-on!) for the return trip home.

Tijuana: Before your arrival, our transportation coordinator will reach out to confirm arrangements. Our driver will meet you at the airport or your San Diego address to escort you across the border.
Cancun: We provide transportation from the airport upon arrival, back and forth from the treatment center, and to the airport upon departure. We provide travel for your companion at no extra cost as long as their travel schedule is the same.

Please arrive fasting for 12 hours in preparation for lab tests.
