What is the rectum?

The rectum is part of the body’s digestive system. It is the last 5 to 6 inches of the large intestine leading to the outside of the body. The purpose of the rectum is to store waste waiting to leave the body.

What is rectal cancer?

Rectal cancer is malignant cells that form in the tissues of the rectum. Rectal cancer is rare before the age of 40. Risk factors include a diet high in red meat, fat, and alcohol.
